NOT ORDINARY NAMES
Toa and Koa are mascot characters whose names come from te reo Māori, the language of New Zealand's indigenous people: Toa means warrior, courage, and bravery, while Koa means joy and happiness. Toa is the first to press the button on the magical coffee machine and climbs into the portal without thinking, while Koa lives the moment and rejoices in whatever it is that's on the other side.
It's this combination of courage to step into the unknown and the ability to enjoy what's happening that defines both the characters and the show.
